Joyfully Learning

By MERRY JOY REYES

I HAVE a somehow normal, maybe a bit pampered life.

I am the eldest among three children. My father is a seafarer while my mother is a hands-on housewife. Our parents have worked hard to support the family and give us a comfortable life.

I first took up Nursing, earning the degree as Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Manila Doctors College.

But I was not sure that was really the career for me. So, I decided to take up another course– Social Work at the Philippine Christian University (PCU) where

I found a sense of belonging.

Not long after graduation from PCU, I got into Grace To Be Born.

One of my high school friends informed me that Grace was looking for a social worker. So, I took the chance to apply and I was accepted. I joined Grace on July 2014.

I am still doing what I can to be of help to Grace. I find that there is still a lot to learn– about myself and others, and the various aspects of our mission.

I am struggling with time management. There’s so much to do and so little time and I am still trying to cope with these challenges.

Grace at The Feast

My friend who introduced Grace To Be Born to me attends The Feast. So, by God’s grace, I’ve been attending The Feast too.

Before the Coronavirus Pandemic, I was attending Feast Southwoods being held at Southwoods Mall in Biñan, Laguna.

Then just recently, I also attended Feast Alabang being held at Bellevue Hotel in Alabang, Muntinlupa, Rizal.

Yes, there’s so much to do.

There are times that I feel anxious over those that are beyond my control.

My name is Joy, so, yes, I am joyfully learning about living for and serving God. A Biblical verse I have learned at The Feast helps me focus on my everyday work and reminds me to find joy in each moment. It’s now my favorite verse from Matthew 6:34:

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.

Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
