Facing the Challenges of School-from-Home

By IRENE E. DABAN

I AM a teacher at the Victoria Elementary School in Sta. Fe, Leyte.

The Coronavirus Disease (COVID) Pandemic has posed challenges for me day after day. To curb the spread of the disease, the government has prohibited mass gatherings – including face-to-face school classes.

So, if the new normal for employees is what’s called work-from-home, for students, it’s school-from-home.

My challenge has been to think of ways how to help parents to be teachers for their children. I have to plan lessons for them. I have to be creative, more resourceful in providing the most appropriate and effective instructional materials that will make learning possible and easier for my pupils.

I’ve been able to do my job as I keep in mind the promise in my favorite Bible verse, Psalm 46:1 “God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble.”

Thus, aside from the academics, I’ve been able to share to parents and learners this truth: That God will always make a way to help us survive our ordeal. I always remind them to lean on God and trust Him that amid these difficult times, His amazing ways will prevail.

And true enough, God has always been present for us through the overwhelming, unceasing, and constant support and guidance of family, colleagues, friends, relatives, and the government as well.

Praise and Glory to God!
