I Fear Not
By IRRAH E. ESMERO
AS the Pandemic hits us without letup, with ups and downs of COVID cases, different variants, I really have to make adjustments to cope with the new normal. Carefully, I have to plan my day By IRRAH E. ESMERO to avoid risks of getting infected with the disease.
I work in Manila as a community facilitator at the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). So, early on, for two years, I was away from my family. Thus, I had no one to lean on as anxieties over COVID haunted me no end.
Then, I had the chance to have a vacation and be with my family in the province. Alas, I really did not enjoy the break. I was not feeling well, so, I just had to take some medicines and stay in my room. I spent sleepless nights, fearing I might be having the COVID symptoms. But it was useless anxiety because as my parents and siblings well comforted me, I eventually felt better. We even optimistically welcomed the Year 2022 with a sumptuous enough Feast.
I am a Social Work graduate, so, I’ve been blessed to serve as social worker at our Jeremiah 33 Foundation shelter for abused girls.
Those days, and to this day, I survive as I keep in mind the Bible verse I’ve been sharing with our Jeremiah girls– God’s promise in Isaiah 41:10: Fear not for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you. I will uphold you with my righteous hand.
