GRACE TO BE BORN Part 3

It’s All Above Love

RECENT statistics show that part of the Philippines’ high maternal mortality ratio is this stark reality: each year, about 1,000 women die from abortion complications– since the women resort to abortion to escape the ordeal, the stigma, of unintended pregnancy.

It is to help these women that Grace To Be Born was born and, against all odds, continues its mission.

As we honor the women on this, the International Women’s Month, we cap our series on Grace To Be Born with a walk down memory lane, to remember the milestones of the Ministry.

One time during one of his talks at The Feast, the Light of Jesus Family weekly faith gathering, our founder, Bro. Bo Sanchez, discussed the ill effects of abortion. Moved by the talk, one of the participants,

Bro. Rey Ortega, with the support of his wife Myrna, brought up the idea to Bro. Bo of establishing a shelter for pregnant women in crisis to prevent them from resorting to abortion.

Bro. Bo readily provided LOJ’s support for the shelter, now our Grace To Be Born.

Recognition

Yes, as it declares on its Facebook page, the mission of Grace To Be Born is to express the infinite compassion of God, the Author of Life, by bringing girls and women in crisis pregnancy to experience a taste of God’s loving care, by providing them a shelter where they can stay and be safe.

God blessed Grace To Be Born with the Saint John Paul II Award, a special grant of the Catholic New Evangelization Award of 2019, complete with trophy and certificate “in recognition of the organization’s active service for the promotion, celebration, and defense of family and life.”

The Award crowns the long, challenging journey of Grace To Be Born as a Ministry to save women from the pain and trauma of abortion, and assure life to the unborn.

Grace Executive Director Sis. Esther Palacio, received the certificate and trophy for Grace, granted on June 8, 2019. Above, she presents them to a very happy Bro. Bo Sanchez.

In a recent blog, Bro. Bo said, “Since this Ministry started 10 years ago, we’ve been able to save thousands of babies from abortion, and care for thousands of mothers who needed a home.”

Unconditional Love

Grace To Be Born not only provides each woman free board and lodging. Health care professionals take care of her, so she is strong enough for the delivery of her baby. Social workers attend to her with professional counselling so she can be positive about her situation and have hope for a life of dignity.

Most important, she gets spiritual nourishment through prayer meetings, daily prayer sessions, and unconditional loving care of spiritual advisers.

Grace has been a blessing not only for the mothers and the babies but for the staff as well.

Charmee Seguay, a caregiver in Grace To Be Born, says:

I’ve been here for two years now.

I’m taking care of the babies and the mothers. Before, I really didn’t know that there was a shelter like this that helps pregnant women who have nowhere to go.

So, it was really great to find out that there is a shelter like this here. Ever since I started serving here at Grace To Be Born, my outlook in life really changed.

I became more committed. A lot of people tell me that I’m too young for this vocation— because you really need a lot of patience here. You’ll become more loving, and caring towards the babies here—because they have life, and you have to take care of the baby’s life.

Thank you to all those who help Grace. We know that when you give, you don’t have to be rich. It just has to come from the heart.
